Updated: Nov 2, 2023

The dashboard provides a comprehensive analysis of unemployment, focusing on gender and age groups:

1. People Unemployed by Gender:

  • The pie chart illustrates that there is a higher proportion of unemployed men compared to women, with a ratio of 55.6% to 44.4%.

2. People Unemployed by Age:

  • The data indicates that the highest unemployment occurs within the age range of 25 to 34, while the lowest occurs within the 16 to 19 age group. This is likely attributed to individuals in the latter group being expected to be in full-time education.

3. Total People Unemployed by Age and Gender:

  • The bar chart provides a detailed breakdown of unemployment by age and gender. Even within the age range of 25 to 34, which has the highest overall unemployment, there are still more unemployed men. However, when examining the age group of 65 and above, there are more unemployed women than men.

4. Unemployment by Year and Gender:

  • The line chart covering the period from 2006 to the post-2014 period shows that throughout this timeframe, men consistently experienced higher levels of unemployment compared to women. This difference was most pronounced between 2008 and 2014, aligning with the 2008 recession. The peak was in 2010, with approximately 46 million men and 33 million women being unemployed. Post-2014, unemployment dropped to its lowest at 3 million, effectively closing the gender gap in unemployment.

This comprehensive analysis offers valuable insights into the dynamics of unemployment, highlighting gender disparities and age-related trends over the years.
